QUIET concerts at the Hong Kong Stadium could soon be permitted but bungee jumping is definitely out, the Urban Council ruled yesterday.
A survey of residents, commissioned by the stadium's Board of Governors, revealed 64 per cent of households did not object to a limited number of concerts each year.
But the hopes of bungee enthusiasts were dashed for a second time by the council, which said it was not in line with the promotion of healthy sports and activities.
Members said bungee jumping was considered dangerous. A similar application was rejected in 1993.
Democratic Party stadium spokesman Fred Li Wah-ming said the sport could become as big in the territory as it was in Australia and New Zealand.
He said bungee jumping could help diversify use of the stadium, which faces financial problems if concerts remain banned.
'As long as the organiser has a 100 per cent safety record and adequate insurance cover then I feel it would be fine,' Mr Li said.
