POLICE last night seized more than $150,000 worth of counterfeit coins in three raids in Hunghom.
A total of 13,000 fake $10 coins, 3,500 $5 coins, 1,000 $2 coins and 1,000 $1 coins were seized in the operations by the Commercial Crime Bureau.
Among the locations raided was a flower shop at 17 Man Tai Street where police arrested two people and seized equipment believed to have been used for the manufacture and polishing of coins.
The flower shop was also believed to have been used to distribute the coins.
Another five men, believed to be members of the forgery syndicate, were arrested at two other locations in the area.
A police officer said the fake coins were probably sold 'at very low prices' to video games centres where customers would exchange them for genuine coins. The fake coins would be put into the machines.
