This time South African Felix Coetzee hit the deck when the fancied Rocket Green (5-1) was the chief sufferer in a severe tightening incident at the 800-metre mark.

The incident occurred when French rider Eric Legrix came over from the outside to tighten Spartan (7-1). This produced the knock-on effect which put paid to Rocket Green and Coetzee.

Holland steered clear of trouble and had Small Wonder moving very well throughout the Class Three, 1,400-metre event.

Kowloon Pride, who had been beaten over the short sprint at Happy Valley last time out, was stepped up to this distance by trainer David Hill who felt it would be more to his liking.

After the incident, Kowloon Pride got to the lead and was going well enough for Legrix as the field, now more strung out, headed into the straight. But Holland, simply coaxing Small Wonder along, moved up smoothly and soon delivered a telling challenge to the leader and favourite.
