WHILE I agree with your editorial ''Underage drinking is under-recognised'' (South China Morning Post, January 8), I feel that because most of the staff in convenience stores themselves are under the age of 18 a further problem is posed.

How does a 16-year-old and/or 18-year-old staff member demand proof of age from a person of the same age group? Also, imagine the intimidation or bullying of young staff by groups of underage youngsters seeking to buy alcohol. This factor may also need to be addressed.
