LEGISLATIVE councillors plan to pressure the Executive Council to reconsider its approval of the controversial Black Point power line project.

Legco members said yesterday their relationship with Exco had been damaged by the decision, seen as a snub of their request for a meeting.

As residents vowed to fight on to get the power lines re-routed, legislators said they would discuss the issue at their House Committee tomorrow and try to persuade Exco to reconsider.

The decision by the Governor-in-Council on Tuesday came as legislators were preparing to meet Exco members for final discussions on the issue.

'We are going to go ahead and give them our submissions anyway,' said environmental affairs panel chairman Christine Loh Kung-wai. 'Constitutionally there is little we can do, but we will ask them to reconsider their decision.' A spokesman for the Planning, Environment and Lands Branch said Exco members were aware that legislators wanted to meet them to discuss the project.

Just a day before the decision, the environmental affairs panel secretariat notified the Exco secretariat that legislators wanted to offer final submissions on the long-running and controversial issue.
