LEGISLATORS yesterday urged the Government to speed up decisions on applications to put up political banners or signboards on the streets. They said the Lands Department was inefficient and the Government ought to consider whether it should be handling the applications at all. The department took up to three weeks to process applications, said legislators. Events the banners promoted could be over by then, they added. Speaking in the Legislative Council's House Committee meeting, Democrat Szeto Wah questioned the department's staffing levels. 'I wonder whether it has sufficient staff to look after all applications submitted by legislators and other groups,' said Mr Szeto.
