LOCAL handler Ricky Yiu has made a big impression in his first season with a licence but then the likes of Eddie Lo and Geoff Lane, for whom he was formerly assistant, will tell you he was always an asset to their respective stables.
Yesterday the enigmatic Courageous started for the first time for the Yiu stable and looked on far better terms with himself than he had been for some time.
He also ran much better and is worth around three lengths compensation to his finishing position in the eighth event won so well by the bolter Better Choice as he was badly baulked and had no room on the far rail in the closing 100 metres.
The run will almost certainly bring him on and he is worth following on his next couple of starts now that he's come down to a realistic rating of 50.
He could also be dropped another two pounds after yesterday's run and every little bit helps in this town where so many races are decided by the narrowest of margins.
Fortune Ring also put in a good effort to finish fourth as he was slowly away and then checked and must have lost three or four lengths at the start.
