THE MEDICAL BATTLE THE boy mistakenly listed as dead after the Pat Sin Leng blaze is a 'fighter' who is battling for his life following brain surgery, doctors said yesterday.
Lee Chun-man, 13, whose grieving parents were overjoyed when he was found alive on Sunday, is with six classmates in the Prince of Wales Hospital.
Two children have received skin grafts, but doctors fear those who survive could be facially scarred or lose their hands.
Vice chancellor-designate of Chinese University and leading surgeon Professor Arthur Li Kwok-cheung said the seven youngsters stood only a 50 per cent chance of survival.
Chun-man remained in a critical condition yesterday after surgeons removed a blood clot from his brain and splinted his two broken thigh bones.
'An intra-cranial monitoring device has been planted inside Chun-man's brain to see if his brain pressure has surged.
'We are giving him medication and [he is on a] ventilator to suppress a rise in brain pressure. But at present there is still a danger to his life,' Professor Li said.
