TEENAGE tennis starlet Jacklyn Fu Yan-ning walked off with her second straight Academic Award as the most outstanding student from among the Hong Kong Sports Institute scholarship athletes.

Jacklyn won the 1994 prize for getting 10 As in the Hong Kong School Certificate of Education Examination, and she was again honoured after being accepted by Yale University in December.

'Being accepted by Yale was the best Christmas present for me because that was the only university I applied to,' said the Island School pupil, who wants to become a teacher.

'I choose Yale because they have a good programme in education psychology, and they have a strong tennis team, so I can further develop my game.' Jacklyn, a member of the Hong Kong team for the Federation Cup women's team tournament in Thailand next week, is a versatile athlete who also represents her school in netball, swimming and running.

The straight As student, however, stressed she has to sacrifice her social activities to be good academically and also an outstanding athlete.

'My time is shared between studies and tennis and I seldom go shopping or to the movies like other teenagers,' said Jacklyn.
