ANY fashion-conscious femme worth her Gucci bum-bag knows that the cheapest and easiest way to update your wardrobe is with accessories and I'm not talking about the Suzanne clip. If you can't afford to buy a whole new wardrobe for Spring (and let's face it, even if you can, the mere thought of one more spin around town after the New Year sales is enough to put anybody off) you too can look as if you have nothing better to do than shop. It's as easy as one, two, three little accessory basics: bags, baubles and buttons. That's it. You'd be surprised what a little jewelled button can do to a boring navy blazer. The slightest change can make all the difference. A smaller, more feminine watch or dainty drop earrings are subtle changes that can have a big impact. On the more obvious side, a brightly hued handbag is an easy way to usher in the new season of colour . . . and don't forget sunglasses in a pale tortoise frame can light up the face faster than snap-on blonde highlights. Still not convinced? How much would you pay for a new sun hat? Before you answer, you should know that many local retailers take advantage of the lull between sale time and new arrivals to sell last Summer's merchandise at greatly reduced prices. Perennial Summer classics like straw hats and swimwear are exceptionally good value at the moment. This offer is only available in stores, so you will be required to brave the crowds in order to get the best deal. Happy hunting, and remember . . . think small.
