Open talks with Major requested

LEGISLATORS will write to Governor Chris Patten, demanding an open meeting with Prime Minister John Major when he visits early next month. They are due to meet Mr Major on March 4 at Government House.

But at yesterday's House Committee meeting, legislators said it would be better to have an open meeting with Mr Major in the Legco Chamber.

Without saying whether the legislators' demand would be rejected, Government House said Legco members had already been told why the meeting was being held behind closed doors.
