HE'S taken time to drop down to a rating from which he can win and he's taken time to reach a level of fitness to do himself justice but now he's there, the David Hill-trained Hung Hing Tai should not be missed on his next couple of outings.
Yesterday he was down into Class Six for the first time and that seemed to make all the difference as he flew home in the seventh event won by Happy Birthday.
He was ridden by Hill's inexperienced 10-pound claimer M. C. 'The Hammmer' Poon and had a tough run from the top of the straight. The Hammer's inexperience cost him dear as he started to look for an inside run despite the ground being much faster in the centre of the track.
And in looking for an inside run he was continually checked and blocked. In the end it was a big effort to finish on the heels of the placegetters as he left the impression that had The Hammer found a clear run, then Hung Hing Tai could well have run the quinella.
Never So No shaped pleasingly in the griffin contest and is just looking for more ground.
