THE Shenzhen Safari Park has agreed to resume feeding 31 circus animals which it had left to starve after the park's contract with the Russian State Circus ran out.
Edward Zapashny, the elder son of animal trainer Walter Zapashny, said representatives had met Hu Yinglong of the park's performance department on Saturday, and he had agreed to feed the animals yesterday.
Fifteen lions and tigers, six monkeys and 10 horses had been without food for several days. 'We think everything may be all right now,' Mr Zapashny said.
He said Mr Hu had agreed to pay US$15,000 (HK$115,800) compensation for the deaths of three horses and two tigers over the three-year period that the circus performed on the mainland.
'If all goes well with documentation, we are hoping to leave within four days or so,' Mr Zapashny said.
He claimed the park had made deliberate mistakes in initial documentation to hinder the circus.
