MICROSOFT (HK) has appointed Batey Ads as its Hong Kong and southern China advertising agency.
With an estimated billing of between $7 million and $9 million in Hong Kong for the next 12 months, Batey could also pick up a substantial part of Microsoft's greater China creative work.
There were 1.1 million PC sales in China during 1995 and Microsoft dominates the country's operating systems.
'This appointment has high growth potential,' said Microsoft spokesman Martha Benson.
'This will be one of the top 10 advertising accounts in Hong Kong.' Besides Batey Ads, the local offices of Saatchi & Saatchi, Foote Cone Belding and Maurice & Charles Saatchi were shortlisted as candidates for the Microsoft account.
'It was a close decision,' said Ms Benson.
