A FORMER senior Customs officer accused of cigarette smuggling has had his bail restrictions cut and his trial postponed until May. District Court Judge H. C. Wong yesterday moved forward the trial of Yeung Kam-fai, 43, to May 20 to allow the defence to review new witness statements submitted by the Crown. Prosecutor Barry Sceats accepted the new hearing date. Bail restrictions including a ban on Yeung using a mobile phone and a midnight to 7 am home curfew were also lifted. Yeung denies conspiracy to export unmanifested cigarettes between June 1990 and March 1994. He also denies conspiracy to defraud.
