A KITCHEN worker died mysteriously just hours after being discharged from hospital where he was treated for a respiratory infection.

Coroner Warner Banks yesterday recorded an open verdict on Chan Wai-chung, 41, after a post-mortem examination failed to reveal a cause of death.

His sister, Chan Chim-chung, told the inquest that on December 7, 1994, Chan complained of a sore throat after dinner.

The court heard that Chan went to the Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital at about 10.30 pm the same day.

A doctor said Chan was treated and discharged.

Hours later Chan collapsed. He was dead on arrival at the hospital.
