At a press conference yesterday, spokesman Liang Jinquan urged Taiwan to pay attention to calls for reunification from members of the top advisory council.

Answering questions on cross-strait relations, Mr Liang, also vice secretary-general of the CPPCC, said an early resolution of the reunification issue was the concern of all Chinese.

'Some of the motions that have been submitted for the session are related to promoting of peaceful reunification,' he said.

He stressed that only when Taiwan authorities come back to the stance of the one-China principle, could talks on improving relations have any meaning.

Meanwhile, the construction of spiritual civilisation is also a dominant topic of the conference.

Committees of the CPPCC on issues such as society, law, cultural and historical data, education, science and technology, medicine, health and sports had completed research on social and spiritual civilisation development, Mr Liang said.
