THORNTON Management (Asia) has appointed two senior investment professionals to its Asia-Pacific asset management team. Campbell Gunn joins as director of Investments to lead Thornton's Japanese investment team. Before joining Thornton, he was a partner at Tiedemann Investment Group, responsible for the management of the Japanese assets of an Asian hedge fund. Dennis Tighe joins Thornton Management (Australia) as senior manager of investments. He will be responsible for the group's current and future investments in Australia and New Zealand. Mr Tighe was an executive vice-president of BT Australia where his primary responsibilities were management of international and Asian equity portfolios.NEW Zealand Insurance has named Mike Hannan as general manager for greater China. Mr Hannan will continue to be based in Hong Kong with overall responsibility for Hong Kong, China and Taiwan, while co-ordinating marketing within Asia for the group. Andrew Lo has been promoted to general manager for Hong Kong. Mr Lo has been with the company for 27 years. In his new capacity, he will be responsible for spearheading and implementing business operations in Hong Kong.CALVIN Wong has been appointed vice-president (agency) of New York Life Insurance Worldwide. Mr Wong has had 14 years' experience in the life insurance business, primarily in Hong Kong.PETER Kung has been named director of China tax by KPMG Peat Marwick Hong Kong. He has extensive experience in advising multinational corporations on their China operations.MANULIFE has appointed Elaine Wong as assistant vice-president of administration, Shanghai Operation. She has been with Manulife for more than 20 years. She will be responsible for setting up an administration and information technology operation in the company's Shanghai location in readiness for the start of business in China. BASF has appointed Bernd Kremmling as chairman of its newly-founded holding company in China, BASF (China) Company. Mr Kremmling joined BASF Aktiengesellschaft, Germany, in 1968 and has extensive experience in the export business for BASF's textile dyestuffs and auxiliaries. Prior to his appointment as the managing director of BASF China in Hong Kong in 1994, he was director of marketing for Specialty Chemicals in BASF Aktiengesellschaft, Germany. Holding the key post of BASF China Company in China and BASF China in Hong Kong concurrently, Mr Kremmling is responsible for managing the overall business development of BASF's marketing and sales in China and Hong Kong. EAGLE Star has promoted Tommy Lim to senior district manager. He won the top district manager award last year. Lam Bick-wah, who joined Eagle Star in 1991, has been promoted to district manager. Rebecca Ho, who joined in 1989, has also been named district manager. Ms Ho was team manager in 1992 and assistant districtmanager in 1994. Raymond Lau has been named sales training and development manager. He has worked for several international insurance companies.A. T. Kearney, she was director of executive resource development for another multinational executive search firm in Hong Kong. Mei Kwong joins A. T. Kearney with nearly 20 years' experience in consumer and industrial products marketing, manufacturing and market research. Ann Keyser will specialise in the financial services industry with a focus on investment banking, securities sales and trading and fund management. Prior to joining A. T. Kearney, she was a search consultant with a financial services specialist search firm in Hong Kong from 1991 to 1995 and an asset management officer at Chase Investors Management Corporation in New York. Tom Masterson has more than 25 years' management and consulting experience. He specialises in industrial and consumer products, manufacturing and civil engineering and most recently was with the Hong Kong office of a multinational executive search firm.
