FASHION Show participants will be competing for a new ''Best Collection Award'' as well as international recognition and major rewards as models show off the new designs on the catwalk. The new prize will be presented by Hongkong Fashion Week organisers, the Hongkong Trade Development Council (TDC), and aims to give extra incentive to designers and manufacturers. Judging will be done by international fashion journalists representing Europe, North and South America and Asia. They will base their selection on creativity and innovation, ease of wear, marketability and presentation, as well as aesthetic appeal. All entrants in the TDC's six specialist group shows - knitwear, casual wear, specialty, designers' collections I and II, and the Hongkong labels show - are eligible for the award. TDC exhibitions manager, Ms Joyce Hui, said the TDC's garment advisory committee had come up with the idea for the new award. ''It aims at encouraging participating countries, to put more emphasis on developing quality designs and workmanship,'' she said.
