A GIRL, 15, who recruited two former classmates into prostitution, was put on two years' probation by a District Court judge yesterday.

Judge Davies told Tang Wai-yan he was giving her a chance because she needed support and guidance rather than punishment.

Tang needed 'support in an open setting rather than institutional care.

She has not had an easy upbringing', he told the court.

Tang was found guilty on February 15 on two charges of procuring a girl under 21 to have unlawful sex with a third person.

Judge Davies criticised Tang's parents, separated since she was seven, saying they concentrated more on their own problems than on their daughter's. He said it was not surprising the young and materialistic girl had succumbed to the 'evil influence' by asking the two victims to make money from prostitution.
