Trade study suggested
THE Government has suggested to the Consumer Council that it studies whether unfair or anti-competition trade practices exist in the legal and medical professions, the Secretary for Trade and Industry, Mr Brian Chau Tak-hay, said.
The council is looking at five industries - financial services, energy supply, supermarkets, telecommunications and broadcasting - to see whether they are in danger of being ruled by monopolies.
''I would not wish to say at this stage whether the Government perceives there is or are monopolistic practices in these sectors of the economy,'' Mr Chau said.
