THE Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts will open its doors to the public on March 31 from 10 am to 5 pm. Performances, demonstrations and exhibitions organised by the Schools of Dance, Drama, Music and Technical Arts will be held for those interested in learning more about the academy. Dance lovers will be able to enjoy creative works by the students of the School of Dance and there will be open rehearsals of the 'Graduation Dance Concert'. The junior students will give demonstrations in different dance streams like Chinese dance, creative movement, modern dance and ballet. All secondary school students are welcome to bring their own dancing shoes and have fun with the academy staff in the open dance classes. Students of the School of Drama will perform excerpts from the Cantonese musical The Dream of a Young Girl, which will be staged at the academy from March 27 to 30. There will also be a book sale of their publications and a production photo exhibition. A number of concerts using different Western and Chinese instruments will be staged by students of the School of Music. Department heads will be available to answer visitors' enquiries. There will be tours of technical areas such as the Television Department, scenic paint shop, wardrobe department, props and carpentry workshop. Visitors will also be able to see the works of students through exhibitions including set and costume design, stage management, props and scenic art, as well as interesting demonstrations such as computer graphics and animation, editing, lighting and audio production. Multi-media theatre works - 'Absolute Chinese Series' - will be jointly produced and performed by students from the four schools. Guided tours of the fully automated library and the Physiotherapy Studio will also be on offer. The Academic Service Office will set up an information counter to answer enquiries on applications for admission to courses in 1996/97 on the open day.
