New music does not always draw in the crowds, but Nancy Loo and Friends attracted a near-capacity audience.
The programme was dominated by the works of two Hong Kong composers, So Ting-cheong and John Chen Kwok-pin. So's Immortal Journey consisted of five pieces for combinations of piano, violin and cello.
Each piece was played atmospherically by the three performers - Nancy Loo, Wong Sze Hang and Richard Bamping.
All are fine musicians, but it felt as if they made more of the music than was there.
The works failed to move and I was at a loss to know what the music was trying to convey.
John Chen's pieces in the second half were altogether more interesting. The piano solo, Prelude, was designed to be performed in the foyer as the audience returned from the interval.
