Faulty jar sparks eye gel recall
A mass recall of Oil of Ulan eye gel is being monitored by the Consumer Council amid fears fragments of glass may have splintered into the product.
Users of the Hydro Contour Eye Gel yesterday were advised to check the jar for rough edges on the rim or lid, after complaints overseas of glass splintering into the gel.
The Consumer Council's chief research and testing officer Connie Lau Yin-hing said: 'So far we haven't had any complaints from customers.' One consumer in Australia required medical treatment after scratching her eye area with glass-ridden gel.
About 6,500 jars of the $99 gel will be removed from shops in the next two weeks.
Another 6,000 consumers with the product are urged to check their jars. They can send the product to Procter and Gamble for a refund or call 2582-9880 or 2582-9546.
Problems with the jar emerged a year ago, a company spokesman said, but recent complaints prompted this recall.
