Noise limits for concerts at the Hong Kong Stadium are to be waived. The stadium's Board of Governors Members yesterday voted overwhelmingly in favour of a proposal put on hold for over a year pending opinion polls and tests on sound equipment. Surveys across Hong Kong and of stadium residents revealed most people would accept concerts at the venue on a restricted basis despite objections by some nearby residents. Director of Urban Services, Albert Lam Chi-chiu, said it was the Urban Council's duty to enrich the lives of the public, not to succumb to minority demands. The proposal will go before the Standing Committee of the council on Tuesday before being passed on to the Executive Council.
