TWENTY-FOUR youngsters from Hong Kong learnt a great deal about environmental and food hygiene, among many other things, during a recent trip to Singapore.

The students - 19 girls and five boys aged between 10 and 17 - were chosen to be Hong Kong Ambassadors of Hygiene on the strength of reports they had written on how they could promote environmental health in their schools and homes.

During their visit the ambassadors observed health procedures in Singapore and met Singaporean students with whom they compared notes.

The Hong Kong delegation visited a school, two Singaporean Government Departments, the Ministry of Environment, and the Housing and Development Board.

Juniors Sally Kwok and Teresa Lai were impressed to hear that the students of CHIJ St Nicholas Girls' School had to clean up the classrooms and school premises.

'This is a valuable suggestion for Hong Kong schools to consider,' they said.
