Thailand have named the same squad that defeated Hong Kong six years ago for their Davis Cup Asia-Oceania Zone Group Two semi-final in Bangkok next month. While the Thais field the same four players only one Hong Kong player from the 1990 team has survived - Pang Lui. Thailand defeated Hong Kong 3-2 in Bangkok in the 1990 Group Two final with Thanakorn Srichaphan, Narathon Srichaphan, Vorapol Thongkamchu and Vittaya Samrej. Pang was very much in the background as Mark Bailey and Colin Grant took on the singles duties. But he is expected to have a much bigger role to play this time as the territory's number two singles player behind John Hui. Hong Kong's non-playing captain Kelvin Inge said he would not name the territory's squad until after this week's Furama National Championships at Victoria Park. 'The fact that Thailand have named the same players as six years ago shows that they do not have any junior players coming up, but that does not mean they are bad,' said Inge. 'I suspect they will be stronger than the Sri Lankan team. It will be a tough match for us. But I don't want to name the team until after this week's tournament.' Hong Kong scored a comfortable 5-0 victory over Sri Lanka in their first-round tie in January when Hui made his first appearance as the number one player.
