New World Development Co has raised the prices of the remaining units at its Scholastic Garden in Mid-Levels by 3 per cent to $6,567 per square foot. The 56 units, measuring between 792 sq ft and 989 sq ft each, will go on sale today on a first-come, first-served basis. Dozens of people, most of them believed to be scalpers who wish to sell places in the queue to genuine buyers, formed a queue outside the sales office overnight. Estate agents said buyers' response is unlikely to be as enthusiastic this time as it was during the first sale in February because of the price increase. At the last sale, scalpers managed to sell a place in the queue for between $60,000 and $80,000, agents said. New World sold the first 68 flats of the project at $6,100 a square foot, and a further 50 units at $6,327 per square foot last month. The company has reserved the project's eight penthouses, measuring between 1,184 sq ft and 1,403 sq ft, for internal sale.
