I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with the affinity care application policy of the Bank of East Asia.
About three months ago, the University of Hong Kong's Alumni Affairs Department sent me an affinity card invitation, inviting graduates of the university to apply for the card. The invitation stated that the Bank of East Asia would give certain donations to the university for every dollar spent.
At that time, I believed the card would allow me, as well as the alumni as a whole, to make contributions to the university for as long as I was using it. I also encouraged some old boys to apply for it.
I was astonished to receive a rejection letter a month later. I called the bank's customer service department for an explanation and a Ms Chan promised to write to me with an explanation in few days. Since then I have not heard from the bank.
I would like to ask the bank and the Alumni Affairs Department of the university whether this is not just a convenient method of obtaining customers' (and alumni's) personal information without having to bear any responsibility? What measures could the department have adopted in order to protect the interests of its ex-students? I think the bank and the university owe an explanation.
