HONG Kong's Lee Lai-shan remained in third position overall at the World Windsurfing Championships in Haifa, Israel, despite being disqualified from one of the two races on Friday.
The 1993 champion Lee, currently with 61 penalty points, has a chance to surpass American sailor Jayne Fenner, who is second in the overall standings with 59 penalty points, on the last day of the six-day regatta.
The 25-year-old Lee was disqualified in race nine on Friday morning in which she finished first.
Her result was declared invalid after Canadian Carol Ann Alie lodged a protest.
'There apparently was a slight touch between San San [Lee] and Alie. Sansan thought there was no call for protest and kept sailing. She only found out after finishing that Alie was going to lodge a protest,' said Hong Kong coach Rene Appel.
Maud Herbert of France, currently leader overall with 18 points, finished seventh.
