A SHOP owner was given a suspended jail sentence for using a dishonoured cheque to buy children's wear worth $8,832 from a wholesaler.

  Fong Chun-tung, 25, who pleaded guilty to obtaining property by deception, was sentenced to three months' imprisonment, suspended for one year. He was also fined $10,000. He admitted deceiving Mr Wong Chun-hing on November 19, 1990.

  Prosecutor Mr Bernard Chung offered no evidence against Fong on seven similar charges.

  Mr Yeung Yeuk-chuen, representing Fong, said his client was a first-time offender who had co-operated fully with police.
