Treatment that works 'inside out'

While most cosmetics companies are tackling the problem of ageing skin from the outside, at least one is offering the promise of more youthful skin in a pill.

Biotec Sweden is the local agent for Imedeen, marketed as 'the first internal cosmetic'.

'While cosmetic applications take care of your epidermis, Imedeen takes care of your dermis, so it builds it from the inside out, that's why it's called beauty from within,' managing director Magdalene Mok said.

The key active ingredient in Imedeen is a natural marine protein compound taken from fish cartilage, which is complemented by zinc, vitamin C, calcium and polysaccharides to nourish, protect and help absorption into the system.

'It stimulates the reproduction of the skin cells in the dermis and is effective in building up the skin tissues,' Ms Mok said.

As a result of stronger collagen and elastin fibres, the tissue regains its ability to bind moisture and elasticity is restored.
