As the sister of a mental patient I would like to complain about the administration of mental hospitals, specifically the policy of changing doctors on a case every six months, and visiting hours.
Mental patients suffer under this policy of passing a case to a different doctor every six months.
My brother has been in Kwai Chung Hospital for nine months now. Previously, he was never kept there for more than three months.
But this last time, three months after being admitted he was transferred from a custody ward to an open one. His mental state was fairly stable and naturally we expected he would soon be discharged.
But his doctor - apparently a recent graduate - did not grant him home leave and decided it was not safe to discharge him.
After a further six months my brother's case was passed to another doctor, who said it would take him some time to become familiar with the case, to adjust medication, and then decide when to discharge him.
