The near-hysterical gigglings of a Xinhua (New China News Agency) press officer made a Hong Kong cop's day. Asked about arrangements for Lu Ping's stay at Xinhua's guesthouse in Stanley, the press officer cunningly hid his total confusion with a fit of manic laughter. After getting over hurdles such as where Stanley is, and, after more giggles, who Lu Ping is, the officer came up blank. The questions were put to police 'spin doctor', Chief Superintendent Eric Lockeyear. On hearing of Xinhua's public relations expertise, he chuckled. 'I love Xinhua. They make Police Public Relations Branch look so good.'
