LOCAL handler Gary Ng Ting-keung has done a good job over the past few seasons with his low grade handicapper, King Spot, placing him to win five times from 33 starts and amassing over $1.1 million in prize money - what a place to own horses.

Yesterday he sent out the eight-year-old for the Class Five 1,000-metre dash down the straight - a trip which was always going to be on the short side but you have to run them where the race programme allows.

Predictably, King Spot was outpaced early on but he was coming through with a strong run under Darryll Holland when badly checked, losing considerable momentum.

In the circumstances he did well to stay on for sixth and is a winner waiting to happen over 1,400 metres or a mile, especially if he were to drop down a few more pounds. Sunflower ran a very similar race, staying on well for fourth.
