What is Recreation Management?
Recreation is an essential part of human life in keeping people both physically and psychologically healthy. Recreational activities are done for enjoyment or amusement and comes in a variety of activities based on individual interests but also by the surrounding social construction. MBA students can apply this natural human requirement into their professional lives through recreation management. Recreation management is a profession which focuses on the skills and knowledge needed to create and deliver recreation and fitness programs in a variety of settings.

A recreation manager would be expected to meet the recreational needs of a community or assigned interest group. Recreation managers often work in parks and recreation centers in towns or on community projects. Common job duties for recreation managers include planning, networking with instructors, budgeting for classes, running activities and events, as well as the evaluation of continuing programs. Recreation managers are also responsible for attending activities to ensure proper implementation, overseeing staff, and maintaining attendance logs.

Recreation management is more than just the study of recreation. This field also trains MBA students to look at the business and structure of the recreation industry while also teaching the the necessary skills for therapy, facilities management, first aid, and keeping the environment clean and beautiful. Recreation management also concentrates on human anatomy, physiology, psychology, and leadership to prepare MBA students to aid those with physical and emotional challenges. Recreation management is a combination of business and social science so MBA students have the opportunity to take courses like the psychology of sports alongside microeconomics and accounting.
Recreation is an integral part of human lives and is only becoming more of a demand with the trend of hectic work lives. This is great news for MBA students pursuing a career in recreation management. Landing a recreational management job can be relatively easy in this lucrative industry. The recreation industry is vast, including positions within national parks, amusement parks, forests, and even schools and communities. As more people explore national parks as holiday destinations, MBA students will find themselves poised to provide top-notch recreational options with the business and managerial skills necessary to making any activity a financially worthwhile endeavor.
Recreational management is a wise and fun choice, but it’s not for everyone. There are things to be considered before pursuing this exciting career. MBA students pursuing a career in recreation management should enjoy being active outdoors and enjoy interaction with people. Recreation management also comes with some physical requirements, such as the stamina to walk and stand for long periods of time, the ability to participate in activities, and lift up to 50 lbs. MBA students who fit this bill will find a career in recreation management that is both rewarding and stimulating.
