The paper, citing a confidential note written by the firm's president Philippe Pontet to Prime Minister Alain Juppe's office in late March, said nine foreign firms and eight French companies had voiced an interest in buying all or part of CGM.

Among the companies mentioned were Marceau Investissements of France, Nedlloyd of Britain and the Dutch firm Delphine, which the paper said was offering US$350 million for CGM's fleet.
