Hutchison Whampoa has won Buildings Department approval to redevelop the Hilton Hotel site in Queen's Road Central into a 56-storey office tower providing a total gross floor area of 701,952 square feet. The tower, Pabove five basement levels, was the biggest development among building plans approved by the department in February. While construction works are already under way, Hutchison has yet to agree with the Government on the size of the land premium for redevelopment. The Government was reported to have requested a premium of about $3 billion. Among the building plans approved in February were 21 residential or commercial-residential projects, five commercial projects and three industrial projects. The second-biggest approved during the month was Sun Hung Kai Properties' 681,596 sq ft residential development in Liu To, Tsing Yi which will consist of five 16-storey to 26-storey apartment blocks above a four-level retail podium. Sun Hung Kai received approval to develop 71 four-storey residential blocks in Wong Yi Au, Tai Po, with a total gross floor area of 153,837 sq ft. New World Development will develop five eight-storey apartment blocks in Tai Po Road, providing 196,279 sq ft. Sun Propsper Co got the approval to build 53 two-storey or three-storey apartment blocks in Mo Sik Road, Fanling, with a total floor area of 146,042 sq ft. Goldwell Development will build two 21-storey commercial-residential towers in Ma Tau Wai Road, To Kwa Wan. Far Gain was given approval to build a 33-storey commercial-residential block in Tuen Mun. Dobrowen Investment will develop a 38-storey commercial tower in Castle Peak Road, Yuen Long. Head Step will build a 21-storey industrial property in Luk Hop Street, San Po Kong, while Orient East will build a 27-storey commercial-residential block in Wharf Road and North Point Road. In Causeway Bay, Sunny Fund International will build a 30-storey residential tower in Caroline Hill Road while Chung Shun Land Investment will develop a 31-storey commercial tower in Hing Fat Street and Gordon Road. In Quarry Bay, W. Haking Enterprises will build a 38-storey commercial block in 981 King's Road.
