A LEGISLATOR and other Jordan residents are to raise objections to the redevelopment of a historical site in the area, which they say bypassed public consultation by slipping through a legislative loophole.
Cox's Road residents have pledged to continue fighting the development of a new high-rise apartment block on the site of the former Norwegian Seamen's Mission, which was sold for $360 million. The residents are also concerned that two other historical sites could follow the same fate.
Legislator Mr Gilbert Leung Kam-ho said he would raise the issue with Legco's Lands and Works Panel within the next few weeks. Mr Leung is a resident of a private apartment block next to the former mission site.
''We are going to continue to make our objections known and will be investigating the possibilities of legal action,'' he said.
The residents are objecting to the development because the old two-storey building and garden will be replaced by a high-rise apartment block.
Another two sites in the area, presently occupied by the Boy Scouts Association Headquarters and Government Quarters, may also be developed for private residential use.
