Scottish lads take over from Welshmen

INVESTIGATIONS into the causes of the New Year's Day tragedy at Lan Kwai Fong are still going on in earnest. The uneven surface and steep incline, particularly in D'Aguilar Street, was probably a contributing factor to the disaster, initial inquiries have revealed.

Another significant event of the past week was the official handing over of duties at Stanley Fort by the Royal Regiment of Wales who returned to the United Kingdom after their two years' tour of duty in Hongkong. Taking over as the British Garrison in Hongkong is the well-known and much feared Black Watch from Scotland. In the news also were corals. According to official statistics, the number of cases of illegally imported coral which included individuals bringing in several pieces as souvenirs after returning from tropical countries and for commercial purposes jumped from 20 in 1991 to 38 last year.
