Two men accused of plotting to kidnap a businessman's young children were acquitted in the High Court after allegations had been made against the police.
The prosecution offered no evidence following a ruling by the judge yesterday that a 'confession' made by Chan Kwok-wai, 19, could not be put forward.
Stuart Cotsen, for Mr Chan, claimed the teenager had been assaulted by police and tricked into making a statement because he would be used as a witness.
Mr Justice Wally Yeung Chun-kuen said police reports on Mr Chan were not consistent with his claims of assault.
Mr Chan and Chan Chi-on, 31, denied conspiring together, and with another man, who has not been arrested, to kidnap the children, aged one and three, of a Repulse Bay businessman.
