There is a curious mix in the music of Swedish band Ace of Base that may be the secret of the group's enormous appeal - light vocals riding on a heavy beat.
That distinctive contrast has remained even though the band has lately softened its loud, hard-driven, hi-tech dance music with a hint of reggae.
Ace of Base has built up a large following of fans which stretches from Europe to the US and Asia.
The band comprises composers-producers Jonas Berggren and Ulf Ekberg, with Berggren's two sisters Jenny and Malin as vocalists.
The foursome have been showered with honours, Swedish and international. Among many other awards, they have picked up titles like Best New Artist, Best-Selling Scandinavian Artist, Favourite Band, and Favourite New Artist.
Ace of Base hits like All That She Wants, Happy Nation, and Beautiful Life have topped pop charts around the world.
They are the only Swedish musicians to get number one slots on the US album charts, a feat even the highly popular ABBA and Roxette have not achieved. Not to mention worldwide sales of 20 million for their debut album, Happy Nation.
