The developers of Dongshan Plaza, being built on the eastern side of Guangzhou, believe the city government's master development plan for expanding its commercial centre eastward will give the project a boost.

The 968,760 square foot development is in Dongshan district, near the Guangzhou Railway East Station and next to Tianhe district, which the authorities want to transform into the city's second most important commercial centre.

Zhang Hongbin, deputy general manager of the investment department, said 98 units in the 602,784 sq ft main office block would be on offer during the phase one sale at prices averaging HK$1,400 per sq ft.

Units to be sold are on floors six, nine, 12, 15 and 18. Sizes range from 550 sq ft to an entire floor of 27,000 sq ft.

Buying response has been slow. Since sales began last Thursday, only about 4 to 5 per cent of the 98 units have sold.

Dongshan Plaza comprises a 24-storey main office block, a 10-storey ancillary office block above a four-storey shopping mall, as well as a two-level underground car park.
