A five-year-old girl left home alone was rescued by a crack police unit she accidentally called while playing with a telephone.
Kindergarten pupil Wu See-wan dialled the surveillance and support section of the Hong Kong Island (Crimes) unit, based in High Street, Sai Ying Pun.
Chief Inspector Wong Yuk-sang said: 'The police officer heard the girl was crying. He then found out she was left alone at home, after her mother went out with her young brother and her father went to work at about 8 am.' The girl told the officer her Yiu Tung Estate address and he sent an emergency police unit to help her.
Officers said her mother, a new arrival from China, had gone with her one-year-old brother to Immigration Tower in Wan Chai.
The five-year-old was found unhurt at the flat on the 15th floor of Yiu Fai House.
