As Southeast Asia's biggest economy, Indonesia is a major food importer. The country, however, is seriously working toward food self-sufficiency. Ultrajaya Milk Industry & Trading contributes to this national effort as Indonesia's leading producer of premium-quality milk and beverage products.

"We started as pioneers in Indonesia, and we've succeeded by being very focused on our business for more than 40 years," says Sabana Prawirawidjaja, president and director. "We have passion, we work hard, and consistent quality is No 1 for us."

Ultrajaya has about 50-per-cent share of the country's liquid milk market - one of several milestones achieved through its commitment to high standards of quality and food safety. In addition to its dairy offerings, Ultrajaya produces tea, tamarind juice and mung bean health drinks.

The company's production processes are almost 100 per cent traceable from the raw materials stage. Frequent sample testing at minutes-long intervals with advanced equipment ensures product integrity and consumer safety.

Applying ultrahigh temperature (UHT) processing and aseptic packaging in its food manufacturing gives Ultrajaya's products a longer shelf life of about 10 months. These technologies likewise ensure product quality throughout Ultrajaya's distribution network across Indonesia. Additionally, all of Ultrajaya's products comply with the halal certification requirements of the country's National Agency of Drug and Food Control.

The company continues to support Indonesia's food self-sufficiency efforts with a dairy farm that it is building in Sumatra. The farm will be one of the largest in the world in a single location with about 23,000 cows. Ultrajaya has also set up a co-operative farm system to reduce the country's dependency on imported raw dairy material.
