I must reply to the extremely one dimensional falsehoods purveyed in the letter of Mrs Elsie Tu (Sunday Morning Post, April 14). Mrs Tu for reasons known only to her, absolutely berates the US for everything that is wrong with the world. How convenient for Mrs Tu, however she is far off the mark with her facts. She notes that Iraqis are suffering, true, but Kuwaitis were raped and murdered, their small country was pillaged, banks emptied and still there are hundreds of Kuwaiti nationals being held in Iraq. She never mentioned these cold facts. Please live there in Baghdad if you feel so fond of that place Mrs Tu. She also had a go at the unequal treatment of the racial groups in the US, however two points Mrs Tu, there are more white people who receive social welfare and who are below the poverty line than the other races put together, and the US is proudly a multi-cultural society, something your beloved China will never be. History shows us they have always been racist and they always will be. She, of course, also never mentions the Chinese gangs in the US who in some cases with the blessing of Chinese mainland officials, murder, intimidate, kidnap, deal in drugs and immigration exploitation, therefore interfering in the internal affairs of other countries. Perhaps Mrs Tu will do well to look at the big picture and to look at the world's history, as it has been the US which has stuck up for freedom and human rights. She has many things to be grateful to the US for, in particular, her freedom of expression and her freedom of travel. Try getting letters of a different opinion printed in Tibet Mrs Tu, or in Beijing. You cry foul of the US yet you have enjoyed peace and stability in Asia for 50 years, because young American men and women and others lost their lives fighting for everyone's freedom. One last swipe Mrs Tu, your former constituency of Kwun Tong should also be grateful for the good old US, as the garment industry and other factories located there gave a good living to your constituents and therefore contributed again directly to your well-being. So instead of berating the US, why don't you go home to your own country? DON TAYLOR Mid-Levels
