A GOVERNMENT response will accompany the preliminary findings of the independent report into the Lan Kwai Fong tragedy to be released today.
Mr Justice Bokhary handed a copy of his report to the Governor, Mr Chris Patten, during a 30-minute meeting yesterday, which ended with Mr Patten promising to publish the document in English and Chinese today.
Holding the report, which took more than two weeks to compile with assistance from the police, the Fire Services Department and the Hospital Authority, Mr Patten said: ''I am very grateful that Mr Justice Bokhary for completing the report as swiftly as he has.
''Our intention, as you know, [is that] there should be interim recommendations in advance of the Lunar New Year celebrations.'' The Governor also appreciated the ''sensitivity'' Mr Justice Bokhary showed in the ''extremely difficult tragic circumstances''.
At Government House, Mr Justice Bokhary declined to reveal details of the report.
He said he would finish the final report as soon as possible, adding that no deadline had been set.
''At the moment we are reviewing our files to see what areas we would like to concentrate on a little further,'' he said later.
