A restaurant owner was sentenced to eight years in prison after police found him with a gun and 10 rounds of ammunition.
Yip Kin-chit, 36, was convicted of possessing arms and ammunition without a licence and conspiracy to rob.
He told police he had planned to rob a trading company in Central, the court heard.
But in the High Court, Yip told Mr Justice Arthur Leong Shiu-chung that the confession was beaten out of him and that he had been framed by a police informer.
Defence lawyer Frederick Whitehouse said: 'The offences would not have been committed but for the activities of Cheng Kwok-keung, the informer.' The defence claimed Cheng was angling for police information by planting an automatic pistol and ammunition under the front seat of his car when he offered Yip a ride.
Cheng then drove the restaurant owner into a police ambush, it was claimed.
