LINGNAN College's plan to move to a bigger and better campus in Tuen Mun is nearing success as the school is ready to submit the proposal to the Legislative Council for fund approval, according to its president.

Speaking to the press after the school's 22nd graduation ceremony, Dr John Chen Tso-shun revealed that the design of the new campus had been approved by the University and Polytechnic Grants Committee.

The college will table the proposal to the Legislative Council's Finance Committee next month for the approval of a $420 million grant for the new 3.5-hectare campus in Tuen Mun.

The fund will be used to build the school's main buildings, library, canteen, swimming pool and other facilities.

The college hopes that the project will be started in March and completed in 1995 when all programmes offered will be at degree level to accommodate 2,000 students.

''After so many years of planning and struggle, we have arrived at the final stage. We hope that the grant will be approved and our college will be expanded on schedule,'' Dr Chen said.

He added that the college decided at a recent academic board's meeting to set up committees for administration, staff, finance, and campus development.
