More than 250 scientists from China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and further afield gathered in the territory recently to exchange ideas and discuss collaborative research.

The fourth International Symposium for Chinese Organic Chemists was organised by the Chemistry Department of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK).

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Vice-Chancellor Charles Kao said: 'Chemistry has much to do with the way we live today and organic chemistry lies at the very heart of a major segment of the modern chemical industry.' Programmes at the three-day symposium included a keynote lecture, 15 invited lectures and various presentations.

The event focused on the latest developments in organic chemistry, with special emphasis on materials science, pharmaceutical chemistry and bio-organic chemistry.
